You know that wedding entertainment is a necessity and not a 'nice to have', but what is the best time of day for them to entertain you and your guest? Why should you listen to me? I've performed at over 700 weddings and through this experience I have learnt which times work best for wedding entertainment, you don't have to follow my advice but it might be worth considering. Most importantly, your guests will appreciate entertainment at any part of the day. However, there are times that I recommend people don't book wedding entertainment for.....and these times are probably not what you think! Photo by Clusky Smith Best times for Wedding Entertainment A fantastic time to book your wedding entertainment is for the drinks reception, after the ceremony and before the meal. This is such a good time to book wedding entertainment because the newly weds are taken away to have photographs and are unable to mingle with their guests. Most of the time, when I arrive your family and friends will think that I am another guests. When the first group starts reacting to the magic I perform you can feel the atmosphere of the room change, all the other guests want to know what’s going on. What caused those people to react like that?! Then every group wants to be the next group that I approach. I usually have some time to perform into the wedding breakfast and my priority is to show the top table some exclusive magic routines that no one else gets to experience. This is my favourite part of the day and I love leaving the newly weds with some romantic souvenir. An equally great time to book entertainment is for your evening reception. The beauty of this time of the wedding day is that your providing entertainment for both day and night guests. The night guests will really appreciate that you have taken them into consideration when booking entertainment. I really enjoy mixing and mingling with guests at an evening reception as generally they have had one or two beverages and we can have a lot of fun! One thing to note, I would suggest you don’t book a magician at the same time as a live band, as the magician will not be able to communicate with your guests very easily. When NOT to Book Entertainment I often get asked if the lull after the meal and before the evening reception is a good time to book wedding entertainment. The answer to this question depends on your venue. If your wedding venue is a hotel where most of your guests have booked a room then I would suggest you don’t book a magician after the meal as many guests will retire to their room to freshen up. However, if your venue does not have accommodation (e.g. a tipi wedding) then this is a great time to book entertainment as the guests will appreciate being entertained before they dance the night away. I hope this helps and if you have any questions at all please just contact me via my website contact form or by emailing me at [email protected] Photo by Sarah Beth Photo + Film
