I can't believe I've been on this earth 32 years and never been to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival before!
One of my goals for 2017 was to visit Edinburgh during the festival and I'm so glad I added it to the list. If you've never thought about going I would definitely recommend it. As I had no idea what to go and see and expect from my experience I thought I would dedicate a blog post to the shows I enjoyed the most. I apologise from the start as I am not a connoisseur of the arts (so much so that I had to google how to spell connoisseur!) This is just my humble opinion for what it's worth. After a short 5 hour drive, I arrived at my accommodation and straight away headed out to find the venue of Aaron Calvert’s show: Awaken. Watching randomly selected audience members taken to the stage to be hypnotised amongst other impressive spectacles was gripping. I had no idea what to expect from Fringe shows, but it certainly wasn't an act so polished and professional. After exploring and popping to see other shows that I knew nothing about we headed to see Luke McQueen’s show: The Boy with Tape on his Face. This show was a one man comedy show like no other, Luke had the whole audience in uncontrollable laughter from beginning to end, I actually left feeling like I needed a lie down! Luke's show was probably not for everyone due to his unconventional style but if you enjoy ‘original’ comedy I would say this is a must see! The next morning the first show on my agenda was Sam Fitton’s show: A Case of Wonders. In this show Sam transports the audience to a dream world in which anything is possible. I love the idea of the premise and Sam’s persona seemed to captivate the whole audience. I was lucky enough to also see Ben Hart’s show: Belief? I say lucky enough because tickets were a sell out pretty much every day. My description of how good Ben’s show was would certainly not do it justice! I was spellbound for the whole performance, never wanting it to end. It was easy to see that Ben is in love with the art of magic and his enthusiasm for his art was infectious. All of the above were wonderful performances and I will be hoping to see them all perform again! I would certainly recommend anyone to make an effort to see these guys perform if you are luck enough to get the chance. I will definitely be visiting Edinburgh again next August!
